Mokete Camp

Features & Highlights

Mokete Camp Summary

Mokete Camp is located in the vast and mysterious Mababe wilderness area. Mokete Camp is located in an area that is bursting with wildlife and the camp is beautifully positioned to maximise wildlife viewing from camp.

The area around Mokete is very dry and the waterhole, which is virtually in camp, attracts animals from far and wide. There are not many camps that can rival Mokete when it comes to wildlife viewing from the camp.

What Africa Uncovered says…

Mokete Camp is wild! Animals frequently pass through camp and the buffalo and lion interaction is unrivalled. We have seldom seen so many huge herds of animals. Whilst out in the open grasslands it seems like the Serengeti, but it isn’t, its even better. The hype around Mokete is real, we have experienced it!

Mokete Camp Description

Mokete Camp consists of 9 tented rooms, each with a plunge pool. Each tent contains a lounge area with a couch, chairs and table, as well as a desk and chair. The room is open fronted, just covered with canvas mesh, so you are able to see from the lounge or bed, straight out into the bush in front. At the end of the room there is a nice large shower area and a separate toilet. Between the two are 2 basins each with mirrors and a cupboard and safe.

On of the most unique features of a room at Mokete Camp, is the retractable roof. The roof above your bed can be completely retracted, which will allow for amazing star gazing at night.

What our clients say about Mokete Camp..

“Best predator interaction we have seen anywhere. We were hyped when we arrived and even more hyped when we left… that says it all!”

ACTIVITIES & WILDLIFE

Mokete means feast in Sesotho. This area is certainly a feast when it comes to top quality wildlife viewing. There is the Mopane Woodland which lies on the fringes of the open grasslands. This area is where you are likely to see leopard, wild dogs, buffalo, kudu and sable. Then there are the vast open grasslands which attract herds in their thousands. Some of the biggest herds of buffalo in Africa, trailed by at least 3 lion prides. Migrating zebra herds, giraffe, huge herds of elephant, tsessebe, roan antelope  and wildebeest. Jackals, Cheetah and Hyena are also often seen along with warthog that have a distinctive white colour.

There is a lot of wildlife activity in and around the wetlands area. Animals must quench their thirst and cool off from the African heat and lying in wait are the ever hungry lions of the Mababe.
